On my way back from a trip to Thailand, China and Australia, I stopped through to Kadavu Island in Fiji to meet some friends at the Papageno Eco Resort. This place is amazing. They catch and grow all of the food they eat there. There are no roads or electricity on the island other than the generators at the resort. To get anywhere you either have to hike or take a boat. The second we got off the plane we had to wade waist-deep into the water with our luggage to take a boat to our resort. I have never felt so isolated yet peaceful in my life. The locals greeted us and bade us farewell by singing and we went to church with their children and were enchanted by the the villagers we met while hiking through the rainforest. I definitely left a part of my soul in Papageno.
